Earliest Settlement
The Italian Peninsula extends from the region of the Po River southward for some 600 miles. The first evidence of humans in Italy was approximately 100, 000 years ago. They were considered homo erectus. The believe that these homo erectus’ came around in 10,000 BC. The transition from homo erectus to homo sapiens occurred and the first people to touch Italian land was in 3000 BC, however these people came from the Greeks.
The first settlement occurred from 800 BC- 700 BC. While the Greeks settled in the southern tip of the peninsula, Romans, Etruscans, and other people inhabited the northern and central mainland. These people lived in caves or shelter in places among the rocks. Cave painting were a popular thing of this time which were usually of animals and hunting scenes. Around 900 B.C. made up the population between the Arno River in Tuscany and the Tevere in Rome. The population around this time was about 200,000.
Since the peninsula was unified under the Roman Republic, by the first century A.D., The Roman Empire dominated the Mediterranean world. The political unity was quickly then lost during the collapse of the Roman Empire in the fifth century A.D. This left the islands and peninsula subject to invasions.

Starting in the 11th century prosperity of northern and central Italian cities and the Renaissance lessened the effects of political rivalries. Even though Italy declined after the 16th century, the Renaissance strengthened the idea of a single Italian nationality. In 1814 the Congress of Vienna divided Italy into eight parts still under foreign rule. In 1861 Victor Emmanuel II was ruled king. Since popes had ruled before this was a big deal.
By the 19th century, the reunification of Italy had been in plan.Italy remains to be a highly populated area with approximately 61 million residents living there as 2014 and growing. They are continuing to grow due to their high birth rate, long life span, and low death rate.

Resources
The most appreciated crop was grapes and olives. Grapes were typically made into wine, which was not only consumed, but also a popular trade item. Olives were a popular product because not only could they be eaten but also used to make oil. Oil was popular in demand because it was needed to fuel lamp and to clean the body. It was also used for cooking.

Population pyramid
I was interested as to where Italy would be halfway through the century compared to now. The year 2010 shows that a lot of the population was in between the ages of 30s to 70s with a slight difference between how much men to women, but there were more women. At this point nobody had made it to 100, but some women had made it to late 90s. In 2050 although the population has decreased it looks like they are living longer. This is probably due to the increase of medicine and treatments for certain diseases. There is still more women than men and some women have made it to 100 in this time period.
